The Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot launched a National Toll Free Helpline (1XXX-XX-0031) to assists the alcoholic drug dependent persons here today.
On the occasion the Minister said that the Prime Minister in the National programme 'Mann ki Baat' on 14th December, 2014 had desired setting up of a Toll Free Helpline to assist the alcoholic and drug dependent persons, their family members and community at large.
The Minister further added that in order to mitigate the problems of drug abuse and create public awareness, the Department is undertaking various measures from time to time.
The Minister also called up the toll free helpline and inquired about the rehabilitation of drug addiction in the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is the nodal Ministry for drug demand reduction and rehabilitation of victims of alcoholism and drug abuse. This helpline has been made with technical support from M/s TCIL, a Government of India undertaking. Presently, this Helpline will operate from 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. The Helpline will be upgraded to 24x7, based on the number of calls and the response in this regard.
