Development of National Highways (NHs) is continuous process and construction of NHs including in border areas which are sensitive from strategic point of view are taken up depending upon the inter-se priority and availability of funds.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has incorporated National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for taking up construction of NHs in North Eastern region and Strategic Areas of the country sharing international boundaries with neighbouring countries. About 10,000 km stretches have been identified for development in phased manner through NHIDCL depending upon the inter-se priority and availability of funds.
