NSS and NCC Programmes at Higher Educatonal Institutions
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed that it has been issuing advisories to Universities from time to time to inculcate spirit of patriotism in their higher educational Institutions. The National Service Scheme (NSS) and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) programmes at higher educational institutions also aim at nurturing core values, including a National outlook and selfless service, amongst young citizens. The UGC has requested Vice-Chancellors (VCs) of all Universities on 23rd April, 2013 for promotion of National Service Scheme (NSS) in Universities and Colleges and on 13th August, 2015 to implement NSS as elective subject in these higher educational institutions. Several universities and colleges have introduced NCC as an elective subject in the education being imparted by them.
The UGC has also requested VCs of all Universities on 16th January, 2013 to implement the suggestions made by National Integration Council (NIC) to stop radicalization of youth. Further, the UGC had requested VCs of all Universities on 23rd September, 2015 to celebrate Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as Constitution Day every year in their higher educational institutions to increase awareness about the Constitution amongst citizens, particularly children. The details of these letters are available at the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in.
The VCs of Central Universities have resolved, during their conference on 18th February, 2016, that at a central place at every university, the national flag will be flown prominently and proudly.
