President of India inaugurates new buildings of Vidyanagar College

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated new buildings of Vidyanagar College in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal today (January 6, 2016).

Speaking on the occasion, the President recalled his association with Vidyanagar College where he taught political science from 1963 to 1968. He remembered the unflinching zeal and social commitment of social activist Shri Kartik Chandra Adhikari, former President of the Vidyanagar College Governing Body and also Shri Dhirendranath Bera and Shri Harendranath Majumdar whose hard endeavours helped the college come into being on July 29, 1963. He appreciated the initiatives of UGC for prompt sanctioning of money for the construction of college buildings. He also appreciated the West Bengal Governments support in coming up with new infrastructural facilities for the development of the State.

Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Governor of West Bengal Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi and Minister of Higher Education, West Bengal Dr. Partha Chatterjee.
