The IIT Kanpur, the organizing Institute for GATE-2015, has decided to extend the last date for submission of application for the GATE - 2015 examination by two weeks. A large number of applicants and candidates for GATE 2015 from Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas, citing devastating flood situation in these areas, made appeals to Minister for Human Resource Development Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani to extend the deadline apprehending that they won't be able to submit certificates from the College Principal and application fees through banks. The Ministry of Human Resource Development had asked the IIT Kanpur to positively consider requests made by applicants from Jammu & Kashmir.
The deadline for submission of application with supporting document and bank challan was Sept 30 2014. Considering the above, the GATE Board decided to extend the last date for submission of GATE 2015 application by two weeks. Candidates can now submit the GATE 2015 application on-line till 14th October 2014. A notification to this effect has been put on the GATE website (http://gate.iitk.ac.in/GATE2015/#)
The GATE score is used for admissions to post-graduate programs (e.g., M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. The score may also be used by Public and Private Sector Undertakings for employment screening purposes.
