Purbashree Emporium at Handloom Haat, Janpath inaugurated

The Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Smt. Rashmi Verma inaugurated the Purbashree Emporium here today. In order to give a boost to the development and promotion of North-East handicrafts and handlooms products, North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC) has set up its Purbashree Emporium in the Handloom Haat, New Delhi showcasing a wide variety of ethnic and exquisite handlooms products which are eco-friendly and bio-degradable.

During the inauguration, Smt. Rashmi Verma said that this is a major step wherein a designated place has been allocated to showcase the products of North East. She said that marketing is very important to showcase the products from North East and it is a significant step in this direction. Smt. Rashmi Verma said that she could see a variety of products from different states and it is a major step for the marketing required for these products. By setting up such stalls, people will come to know and appreciate the variety of North eastern products, she added.

The NEHHDC markets the handicrafts and handlooms of the North Eastern Region through its chain of emporia located at Shillong, Guwahati, and New Delhi and also through its Regional Sales Promotion Offices located in Bengaluru and Chennai. Besides, NEHHDC conducts 50-80 exhibitions and marketing events per year across the country and abroad for showcasing the exquisite handicrafts and handlooms items of the North Eastern Region.

The NEHHDC was set up in March 1977, for the development and promotion of handicrafts and handlooms of the North Eastern Region. Since its inception, NEHHDC has been spearheading various activities viz., training and capacity building to artisans and weavers, design and technology upgradation, skill development, R&D activities, marketing and exports.

Senior officers from the Ministry of DoNER and Ministry of Textiles were also present on the occasion.
