Railways Conducts Safety Audits Regularly

Image

Delhi
For ensuring implementation of prescribed rules and guidelines for safe operation of trains, two types of Safety Audits are being conducted by Railways regularly, viz.:

Bi-monthly safety audit by the individual Zonal Railway of its own divisions; and

An inter-railway safety audit/inspection conducted twice a year in blocks of January to June and July to December by a multi-disciplinary team of Railway officers.

The safety teams can inspect stations, major coaching depots, running rooms, loco sheds, points & crossings, derailment-prone sections etc.

These audits/inspections serve as an important tool to evaluate safety performance and to identify system failures and generic shortcomings. Zonal Railways submit their Audit Reports followed by Action Taken Reports on the deficiencies found during the audit to the Ministry of Railways. These reports are analysed by Railway Board for issuance of necessary instructions as and when required.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
