The Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel said in the Lok Sabha today that Instructions have been issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DOP&T) on recruitment and promotion of sportspersons in Government of India. As per the said instructions, recruitment of sportspersons can be done upto 5% subject to stipulated conditions. There is no minimum ceiling on recruitment of sports persons. DOP&T instructions are implemented by the Administrative Ministries / Departments concerned.
In a written reply he said, Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) have intimated that as the nodal department for Central Public Sector Enterprises(CPSEs), it has requested all administrative Ministries / Departments of CPSEs to advise CPSEs under their administrative control that while formulating their Human Resource (HR) policies in respect of recruitment of sportspersons in CPSEs, due consideration may be given to the DOP&T guidelines.
As per the information provided by Banks they have their own recruitment policy. Department of Sports have written to various Banks and Public Sector undertakings, inter-alia, to recruit sports persons and give them incentives and promotions in case of their success in Asian Games / Commonwealth Games / Olympics.
Further, Sports persons, who have represented India in Olympics / Paralympics, are offered employment as coaches in Sports Authority of India (SAI) subject to their application, available vacancies and other applicable terms and conditions. SAI has recruited 19 Olympians / Paralympians as coach / Assistant coaches during recent years.
