The Scholarship Schemes being implemented by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment are revised periodically. The details of last revisions made, Scheme-wise, for Scheduled Caste Students and Other Backward Class Students are given:
Details of Revision of scholarship Schemes for Scheduled Casts/Other Backward Class Students
1. Comprehensive revision in the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for the Scheduled Castes (SCs) students was done with effect from 01.07.2010. The annual parental income ceiling was again revised upward from Rs. 2.00 Lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh w.e.f. academic year 2013-14.
2. Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme for SC students studying in classes IX and X was approved by the Government during 2012-13. This Scheme is being implemented from 01.07.2012.
3. National Overseas Scholarship Scheme for SCs etc. was revised in 9.12.2013, increasing maximum number of awards each year from 30 to 60, including rates of allowances which were increased by 10% etc. The Scheme has been recently revised w.e.f 28.01.2015 by increasing awards from 60 to 100 under the Scheme.
4. Under the Scholarship Scheme of Top Class Education for SC students, the annual family income ceiling from Rs. 2.00 lakh to Rs. 4.5 lakh has been raised from the academic session 2012-13.
5. The Scheme of Upgradation of Merit of SC student was last revised w.e.f. 1.8.2013. Financial Assistance was increased from Rs. 15, 000 to 25, 000/- per annum per student.
6. The Scheme of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SCs was last revised from the academic session 2010-11.
7. Pre-matric Scholarship for Children of those engaged in unclean occupations was last revised in December, 2008. The Scheme was further modified in August, 2013 to include the children of parents engaged in waste pickers also among the target group. The Scheme has been rechristened as Pre-matric Scholarship to the children of those engaged in occupations involving cleaning and prone to health hazards w.e.f. 2014-15.
8. Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for OBCs students was revised w.e.f. 1.7.2011. The annual parental income ceiling was raised from Rs. 44,500/- to Rs. 1,00,000/-. The maintenance Allowance for Day Scholars has been revised in various groups ranging from Rs. 160/- to Rs. 350/- and in the case of Hosteller from Rs. 260/- to Rs. 750/- Besides this other allowances like Study Tour allowance, Book Allowance etc. have also been revised.
