Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, would lay Foundation Stone of Youth Training Centre, inaugurate the newly constructed office building of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Delhi Zone and address the Special Youth Convention at a function to be held on 13th September, 2014 in New Delhi. Eminent Sports persons Ms. Mary Kom, Ms. Arunima Sinha and Shri Vijendra Singh shall attend the function as Guest of Honour. Shri Sushil Kumar, India's World Champion wrestler has also been invited to grace the occasion.
Shri Rajeev Gupta, Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs will preside over the function. Secretary, Sports Shri A.M. Sharan, Secretary, Skill Development Shri Sunil Arora, Chairpersons and Members of Board of Governors, NYKS will also attend the function. About 2000 youths from different districts of Delhi State will take part in the convention.
The focus of the Special Youth Convention would be to set the ball rolling for next five years for NYKS active partnership in ambitious programmes announced by Prime Minister of India. In this direction NYKS intends to promote Swatch Bharat Abhiyan by generating awareness on cleanliness, personal hygiene and construction of 40 lakh toilets with the cost of Rs. 4000 crore under Nirmal Bharat Scheme; popularize Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojna and educate, mobilize and motivate 50 lakh rural youth to open bank accounts; generate awareness and motivate 5 lakh rural youth to get skill training for employment and self-employment venture in their areas and actively participate in enhancing the productivity of the country; establish Youth Clubs and Mahila Mandal in each and every uncovered villages of the country with membership of 2 Crores.
For achieving the set targets it is utmost important that the functionaries are trained, exposed to latest trends in youth development and empowerment, management techniques. Moreover, for effective functioning of NYKS it also requires that the offices are manned by dedicated and appropriate number of staff members and their welfare and carrier interests are watched. In this direction NYKS will fill up existing vacancies at different levels, implement Cadre Restructuring in time a bound manner.
Through Youth Training Centre, foundation stone of which will be laid by shri Sonowal, training programmes for its functionaries and youth on social and development issues, leadership, community development through participatory processes and youth empowerment will be imparted. This centre will be a hub of youth activities in future.
Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) the host of this function is an autonomous body of Department of Youth Affairs. It is a unique organization and a wonderful concept for rural youth development and empowerment. It is one of the largest youth organizations of its kind in the world. The core strength of NYKS is a network of 2.74 lakh village level Youth Clubs in nearly all the districts of India with a membership of about 80 lakh youth in the age group of 13-35 years. Between these Youth Clubs and district Nehru Yuva Kendras (NYKs), there is a trained volunteer force of about 12,000 National Youth Corps (NYCs) with whose assistance and participation, NYKS aims to achieve its objectives.
