The two day SCOPE HR Summit 2015 begin here in New Delhi today with an emphasizing note from Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Shri Anant G. Geete to the Human Resource professionals from CPSEs for playing responsible and informed role to nurture the human resource in the organizations to produce quality products in line with the vision of Make in India launched by Government of India. Inaugurating the summit. The minister said Globalization has changed the business environment and way of doing business this has brought to centre stage the importance of Human Resource professionals. He said we have to strive hard and the HR departments are required to provide proper direction to the employees so that they could be a valuable asset in their respective field of expertise.
Shri Geete said our country has a good work culture. He said in government owned Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) employees have belongingness and family environment. The Minister said Government will consider more empowerment to the Boards of PSEs to take decisions.
The minister also released the Special Edition of KALEIDOSCOPE magazine based on the theme of the summit i.e. HR for the Future Unleashing Human Potential. He also awarded gold trophies to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Engineers India Ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd , the winners of SCOPE HR Summit Case Study Contest. On this occasion, Shri K.D. Tripathi, Secretary, DPE, Shri C.S. Verma, Chairman, SCOPE and Chairman, SAIL, Dr. U.D. Choubey, DG, SCOPE, Ms. Veena Swarup, Director (HR), EIL and Summit Convener, Shri Vipul Tuli, Director, Mckinsey & Co. and Mr. R. Krishnan, Director (HR), BHEL also addressed the inaugural session.
Secretary, DPE Shri K.D. Tripathi in his address appreciated Public Sector Enterprises for adopting transparent and innovative HR Practices. He said fair treatment to employees, speedy redressal of their grievances, continuous upgradation of their skills and knowledge are important for HR professionals to play key role in delivering desired business goals. Shri Tripathi said ,the Department of Public Enterprises has taken a number of initiatives in the HR field for the benefit of CPSEs. HR initiatives have included as a parameter in the MOU system so that this aspect gets due attention in the evaluation of performance of management of CPSEs. He said in order to have a complete HR policy, the CPSEs should developing HR Vision, Mission & Values, align short term and long term manpower planning to the strategic business plan of the concerned company, put in place appropriate recruitment and talent sourcing strategy, devise development and learning strategy based on the business requirement and put in place Performance Management System, Career Management & Employee engagement system and Compensation & reward strategy.
He expressed happiness that SCOPE has been playing a key role in strengthening the CPSEs so that they can effectively compete in the fast changing economy by enhancing the skill set of employees of CPSEs through such programmes. He also expressed hope that the HR Summit will provide the participants an opportunity to learn about the global best practices and help them to upgrade their skills and knowledge in the areas of talent development, performance management, optimizing HR strategy, leadership development, capacity building, to name a few, and it would help them to develop appropriate HR policies of their respective CPSEs thereby enhancing stakeholders value proposition.
Chairman SCOPE & Chairman, SAIL Shri C.S. Verma said world is changing at an unprecedented phase and business environment has become highly volatile and uncertain. The organizations who were not able to keep pace with the change and competitiveness, will not be able survive. He emphasized that empowerment of people, feeling of belongingness, sense of ownership and transparency are crucial for HR professionals.
Director General, SCOPE Dr. U.D. Choubey, in his welcome address said HR professional needs to act as visionary change agent and brand ambassador to promote good image and culture of their enterprises. There is paradigm shift in HR as young employees are more loyal to their profession, skill development as compared to organizational loyalty. The nature of employment has been gradually changing to contract based task and result oriented in specific time frame.
In his address Shri Vipin Tuli, Director Mckinsey said People are the most critical differentiator for excelling in the current business scenario. Those who have seized the opportunity to align their business strategies with their people strategy are making headway in the midst of fierce competition. The stepping stone to this is to understand your people so that an environment is created for them to excel and commit to their best.
Ms. Veena Swarup, Director (HR) Engineers India Ltd (EIL) and Summit Convener expressed confidence that this summit will provide full opportunity to HR Professionals across industry to share the experience of good practices. She said the plenary sessions and the concurrent sessions based around the theme will cover range of areas and best practices critical for HR for the future. She said as part of the summit SCOPE is also organizing a case study Contest on Unleashing Human Potential-Best Practices to showcase best practices as well as learn from other organizations. She also requested the Corporates to avail of the benefits of sharing knowledge, experiences and the best HR practices of Industry.
