Secretary (Border Management) visits remote border areas of Tripura
The Secretary (Border Management), Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri Susheel Kumar, reviewed Border projects during his recent visit to Tripura. He reached Agartala on June 24, 2016 and visited remote and hilly area of Tripura North and Dhalai districts of Tripura on June 25, 2016 along with Shri R P Singh, Additional DG BSF and Shri J B Sangwan, IG, BSF Tripura.
The Secretary, BM moved along the extremely difficult hilly terrain in the eastern part of the state and saw the progress of Border Fencing and Border Road. At strategically located Khantalang Border Out Post (BOP), the Secretary interacted with the BSF Field Commanders and Jawans who are doing yeoman service by guarding the difficult International Border. He asked the Jawans to remain alert and vigilant while performing their duties. He further appreciated the efforts of BSF in protecting the work force of construction agencies in border area. He also enquired about administration issues there. The Secretary desired that the issues regarding supply of drinking water to the BOPs through pipeline be examined and resolved.
During his visit to Tripura, Shri Susheel Kumar held a meeting with Senior Officials of the State and BSF, as well as construction agencies working in Border areas to review Border Works and Border Areas Development Programme (BADP). He directed all the agencies to complete the Border Fencing work by March 2017. He also desired that the issues regarding shifting of Border Population towards the home side of the fencing be resolved amicably by the State Government and BSF by engaging people constructively. The Secretary BM also called on the Chief Minister Shri Manik Sarkar and discussed with him various issues related to progress of Border Fencing and Border Road.
The Secretary expressed satisfaction over the overall progress of Border Works as well as BADP projects. However, he said that the work being executed by the National Projects Construction Corporation (NPCC) in the most important eastern segment of the state needs to be expedited.
