Sector Skill Councils

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said that Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) are industry-led bodies, which are responsible for the defining the skilling needs, concept, processes, certification, and accreditation of their respective industry sectors in accordance with National Skill Qualification Framework. There are 33 SSCs in India in almost all major areas including agriculture, life Science etc. SSCs have designed as many as 1,034 Qualification Packs (QPs) and 3,646 National Occupational Standards (NOS).

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Rudy said, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is the implementing agency for Standard Training Assessment and Reward (STAR) Scheme. There have been an over 14 lakhs enrolments across 19 Sector Skill Councils spread over 35 states and Union territories since launch of the Scheme out of which 9.11 lakh candidates have passed so far. Monetary Reward of Rs. 777.03 crores has been processed by NSDC for 761,022 Trainees, who have successfully completed their Training and Certification.
