A joint meeting was held yesterday at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi between Sh. Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Agriculture and Sh. Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers.
It was decided in the meeting that in order to educate Indian farmers about the deterioration to the soil fertility being caused by imbalanced use of Urea and other chemical fertilizers in our Country and also to accelerate issue of Soil Health Cards to Indian farmers for soil testing, both the Departments would work in coordination with each other. It was also decided that both the Departments will work in coordination to educate Indian farmers to use Neem Coated Urea in place of normal urea. Necessary information would be issued for Indian farmers in this regard in near future. The meeting was held on the initiative of the Union Chemicals and Fertilizers minister Shri Ananth Kumar, who feels that dissemination of appropriate information to the farmers is necessary to curb the excessive and imbalanced use of fertilizers in certain areas of the country.
Sh. Shiraj Hussain, Secretary Agriculture, Sh. K.K. Srivastava, Addl. Secretary Agriculture and Senior officials of the National Resource Management Division, Indian Council for Agricultural Research were also present in the meeting.
