The Central Government provides additional battalions of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to the LWE affected states from time to time depending upon the requirement of the states, availability of the forces and other ground realities. In the current year, the Central Government has provided/ is providing additional battalions of CAPFs to some of the LWE affected states. It has been decided to induct 10 additional battalions of CAPFs in Chhattisgarh.
Considering the security scenario of the country, the Central Government has sanctioned 116 additional battalions of CAPFs in the recent past. Out of these 116 battalions, 90 battalions have been raised and remaining 26 battalions are yet to be raised. The above mentioned battalions will be deployed on multifarious duties as per the requirement.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is implementing the Scheme for Special Infrastructure (SIS) under which funds are provided for upgradation/ critical gap filling of the Special Forces of the worst LWE affected states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha on the successful model of the Greyhounds of Andhra Pradesh.
This was stated by Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju in Lok Sabha today.
