Urban Development Minister Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu today directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to expedite construction of two additional office complexes for Supreme Court of India. Expressing concern over the delay in executing the two projects, Shri Naidu directed that revised dates of completion of works should be met without fail. The Minister today inspected the two projects.
Additional office complex, taken up at a cost of Rs.884 cr is coming up opposite the Supreme Court. Sanctioned in July, 2012 by the Ministry of Law & Justice, this complex was to be completed in three years, but only 14% of the work has so far been completed till now. With a proposed built up area of 1,80,845 sq.metres, this complex coming in an area of over 12 acres, will be used for offices, storage of records, Library, auditorium/seminar hall, conference halls, Litigants Hall, parking etc. Under this project, an underground passage to connect existing Supreme Court building and the new complex beneath Mathura Road is also to be built. This complex is to provide parking facility for about 1850 cars.
Shri Naidu directed CPWD to explore the possibility of undertaking works simultaneously in all the six packages. This complex is now targeted to be completed by September, 2017. The Minister directed Shri Praveen Prakash, Joint Secretary(UD) to monitor the progress of the project through regular inspections.
Another additional office building is coming up with in the Supreme Court complex. This was sanctioned at a cost of Rs.84 cr by the Ministry of Law & Justice in May, 2012 and was scheduled to be completed in December, 2014. So far, 50% of the work has been completed and the targeted date of completion has been revised to August, 2015.
