The Union Minister of Steel and Mines Shri Narendra Singh Tomar presided over the live streaming of Nobel Peace Prize 2014 at Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi today. The Nobel Peace Prize 2014 was given in Oslo to Mr Kailash Satyarthi and Ms Malala Yousafzai.

Shri Tomar was the Chief Guest of the event at Norway Embassy, New Delhi. Special guests were children from Mr Kailash Satyarthis organization Bachpan Bachao Andolan and many of his colleagues who have all contributed immensely to this noble cause.

The Minister in his address said:

Children are our future and youth our hope.

Satyarthi ji considers children to be the real strength of a nation and he has dedicated his whole life to the cause of child welfare. Through his Bachpan bachaao aandolan that is Save-the-childhood movement, not only has he enabled the children to move in a new direction, but also laid a strong foundation for bright future of the country.

Over last 20 years, Satyarthi ji has saved thousands of children from child labour and brought them to the mainstream of progress and development.

On a personal level, it is a matter of pride for me that Satyarthi ji and I are from the same state of the country that is Madhya Pradesh. Though greater pride is, that now he has risen above state and national level, and become an international personality.

I am hopeful that India and other nations will follow his footsteps and mitigate social evils like child labour, bonded labour and child trafficking. I convey my heartiest congratulations and best wishes on behalf of all Indians, to Satyarthi ji and the joint winner Malala.

The coveted Nobel Prize which was instituted several decades ago, has retained its importance, its dignity and its objectivity, over all these years till now. This is a great achievement in itself. The Nobel Prize Committee and Norway truly deserve our compliments for this accomplishment. I am confident that for several decades to come, Nobel Prize will remain a benchmark of the very best in the world, in different fields of endeavour.

In the end, I would like to express my gratitude to the Norway Embassy for inviting me to be a part of this historic occasion.

In addition to the live streaming, a video of Bachpan Bachao Andolans Anthem, written by Mr Satyarthi himself and sung by famous singer Jasbir Jassi, was also played.

Norwegian Ambassador to India, Mr Eivind S. Homme said Many children have been given a new lease of life thanks to Mr Satyarthis efforts over the last 35 years. Bachpan Bachao Andolan has saved over 80 000 children from child labor and provided them with education. And this doesn't end here. Mr Satyarthi has said that the grant from the award will be used through a new global think-tank for childrens rights, which I am sure, will help the cause even bigger and better.

The Nobel Committee, in its statement of award said Showing great personal courage, Kailash Satyarthi, maintaining Gandhi's tradition, has headed various forms of protests and demonstrations, all peaceful, focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain. He has also contributed to the development of important international conventions on children's rights.
