This Ministry of Tribal Affairs provides financial support to Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) established in 17 states and the UT of Andaman & Nicobar Islands for various activities including organization of tribal festivals which provides the tribal communities with opportunities to preserve and conduct cultural activities including traditional sports and taps the inherent talent of upcoming tribal folk artists, sports persons, etc. and encourages their participation at national and international events.
The Ministry has also written to the states of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka for organizing Tribal Sports competition at districts and state level which shall include traditional as well as modern games. Promotion of tribal sports and promotion of sports amongst tribal youth has been included as a component of recently launched scheme Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana.
