Two Dead and Six Injured in Derailment of Muri Express Train

Enhanced Amount of Ex-Gratia of Rs. 2 Lakh to the Next Kin of the Dead Announced

In Uttar Pradesh, ten coaches of train No.18101 Muri Express running from Tatanagar to Jammu derailed between Sirathu-Athsarai stations in Kaushambi district on Allahabad - Kanpur section of North Central Railways at around 2.00 PM today. One of these coaches was capsized. As a result of this accident, two persons died, one grievous injured and five received simple injuries. Injured passengers have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The accident site is about 60 kilometres from Allahabad. General Manger, North Central Railways, Division Railway Manager of Allahabad Division along with branch officer and doctors proceeded for the accident site immediately after the accident to ensure speedy rescue and relief operation.. Accident Relief Medical train and Accident Relief Train were immediately rushed to the accident site.

The Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, is constantly monitoring the situation personally and directed Chairman, Railway Board, Shri A.K.Mital, and Member Engineering, Railway Board Shri V.K.Gupta to rush to the accident site. He also directed the railway administration to effectively undertake rescue and relief operations and provide best medical care and all assistance to the injured. Shri Suresh Prabhu has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2/- lakh to the next kin of the dead, Rs. 50,000/- each to grievously injured passengers and Rs. 20,000 to those who sustained simple injuries.

The Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu is constantly in touch with the railway officials and local railway administration.

An inquiry will be by Commissioner Railway Safety, to ascertain the cause of the accident.
