The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways meets Transport Association Assures to look into their grievances

In wake of the call for countrywide strike by truckers associations, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways held meetings with them today to look into their demands. MoS Shri Pon Radhakrishnan met representatives of South Zone Motor Vehicles Association and ACOGOA Vehicle Association while MoS  Shri Mansukh L Mandavia  met representatives of All India Motor Vehicles Congress. The main grievance of the transporters is against the hike in third party insurance premium, which they claim, is not being fixed in a transparent manner by IRDA, and transporters  transporters are assigned a disproportionately higher share of  premium than cars, two wheelers etc, whose accident rates are higher.

Both Ministers assured the transporters that they would take up the issue with the the Ministry of Finance and IRDA. The transporters have agreed to wait for an amicable solution and defer the call for the strike.
