'Nabat' is a narration of a real story, telling the suffering resulting from war. It is a story of suffering of mothers caused by war, says the Director of the film Elchin Musaoglu from Azerbaijan.
'Nabat' is his second feature film and was screened at the 45th IFFI in Goa. Elchin Musaoglu and Iranian actress Fatemeh Arya addressed a press conference at IFFI in Goa today. Explaining the selection of the theme, Elchin Musaoglu said that as a documentary maker, he came across several stories of suffering but the story of mothers moved him the most. The mission of mothers is to see the happiness of their children and grandchildren, but we destroy their mission by making war, feels Elchin. He said that his aim was not to show the war with its soldiers, violence and blood but to portray the effects of war on various things around . To highlight this, he has focused more on powerful visual effects rather than dialogues or music, he said. We wanted to capture the rhythm of silence and loneliness, which is more moving, the Director added.
Azerbaijan is a destination for filmmakers from various countries including America, France and Germany among others, he said. Hollywood pictures have become very popular with the audiences now while Indian movies were popular during the Soviet era.
The actress, Fatemeh, who also works as a social activist said that she feels wonderful after doing the film even though she did not know the Azeri language to begin with. Cinema provides her with relationship with the world and through which she can send messages about peace and harmony to the people.
The film 'Nabat' has also been screened at the 71st Venice International Festival.
