The Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Culture (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr. Mahesh Sharma has condoled the demise of Narayan Bhai Desai. Narayan Bhai Desai was the son of Mahadev Desai, Mahatma Gandhi's personal secretary.
In his message, the Minister has said that Narayan Bhai was a scholarly personality and was among the few Gandhians who had the experience of living closely with Bapu. In his demise, the nation has lost a great Gandhian, he recited 'Gandhi-Katha'(narratives on the life of Mahatma Gandhi) across the world starting in 2004, the Minister said. Narayan Bhai Desai was given the Sahitya Akademi Award for Gujarati in 1993 for the biography of his father Mahadev Desai which he wrote as part of the centenary celebrations of Gandhi's close aide.
Narayan Bhai Desai took forward Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence, promotion ofinter-religious tolerance and harmony for which he won international accolades, Dr Mahesh Sharma said. He also received Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak, the highest award of Gujarati literature, in 2001. The demise of the eminent Gandhian is indeed a great loss for the human cause of peace, tolerance and harmony.
