Training to Labouers in Food Processing Sector

Ministry of Food Processing Industries has a scheme for Human Resource Development (HRD) in the Food Processing Sector. The HRD scheme is being implemented through State Governments under the National Mission on Food Processing. The scheme has the following four components:

i. Creation of infrastructure facilities for degree/diploma courses in food processing sector,

ii. Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP),

iii. Food Processing Training Centres (FPTC),

iv. Training at recognized institutions at State/National level.

There are also two academic-cum-research institutions under the Ministry viz. National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at Kundli, Sonepat, Haryana and the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT) at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, which offer academic programmes at Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. level in food processing. These institutes are also conducting short-term training in food processing including training to the unskilled persons.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
