Tributes paid to the Father of the Nation at Gandhi Smriti Darshan Samiti on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti today
The nation paid tributes to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 146th Birth Anniversary today. The Vice President, Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari ; the Member of Parliament, Shri L. K Advani; the Minister of State for Culture (IC), Tourism (IC) & Civil Aviation, Dr Mahesh Sharma and several other dignitaries paid their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at a function organized at Gandhi Smriti Darshan Samiti in New Delhi today. On the occasion, Mr. Rajiv Chandran, Director, National Information Officer for India and Bhutan , read out the message of Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, UN General Secretary stating At a time of escalating conflicts, violent extremism, displacement and hatred, Mahatma Gandhi showed how cooperation and tolerance can prevail over injustice. Mahatma Gandhi had demonstrated the great value of the rule of law in breaking vicious circles of vengeance. In the year 2007, the United Nations declared 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti) as the International Day of Non-Violence.
An Inter-faith prayer meeting was held at Gandhi Smriti Darshan Samiti as a mark of respect to the great leader. Children from various schools paid musical tribute to the Father of the Nation. Religious Scriptures from all the major religions of the country were read on the occasion.
Dr Mahesh Sharma visited an archival exhibition based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi at the event.
The programme concluded with Bhakti Sangeet and Ram Dhun sung by renowned singer Shri Anup Jalota.
