Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' has turned into a social movement in two years time: Shri Rajnath Singh

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh participated in several Swachh Bharat Mission programmes here today coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Shri Rajnath Singh attended the 'Swachhta Rally' and felicitated those who made contribution to the 'Cleanliness Drive'. He also administered 'Swachhta Shapath' (Cleanliness pledge to the people assembled at the Central Park in Connaught Place area.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Home Minister said two years ago the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' was started and in two years time it has turned into a social movement. Shri Rajnath Singh said children are the real crusaders of the Clean India campaign. I believe that by 2019 the dream of a Clean India, Healthy India will be attained, he added.

Shri Rajnath Singh said cleanliness is also an indication of smartness. We need to be committed towards cleanliness in public places and our commitment would be the most apt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, he added.

The Union Home Minister also inaugurated Roll Call Shelters, Jan Aushadhi Kendra and Smart Class Rooms for NDMC area. Shri Rajnath Singh also had lunch with the 'Safai Karamcharis' working for NDMC. Lauding their contribution, Shri Rajnath Singh said these 'Swachhta ke Senanis' work everyday to keep the area and our neighbourhood clean.

Earlier Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the NDMCs Smart Public Toilet Utility (PTU) at Rafi Marg. Today 14 PTUs and Community Toilet Utilities (CTUs) were inaugurated in different parts of NDMC area including two Smart PTUs at Rafi Marg-Chelmsford Club and Sikandra Road.

Shri Rajnath Singh also paid tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shashtri whose birth anniversary is also being celebrated today. Shri Rajnath Singh said, Shashtriji has inspired many generations in India.
