Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh reviews working of SSB
The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh reviewed the work and activities of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) here today as a part of ongoing review of Central Armed Police Forces. This meeting was attended by MoS(Home) Shri Kiren Rijiju, Home Secretary Shri Rajiv Mehrishi, Secretary (Border Management) Shri Susheel Kumar, Director General SSB Smt. Archana Ramasundaram, Addl. Director General SSB Shri S.S. Deswal and Senior Officers of Union Home Ministry and SSB. Director General SSB gave a detailed presentation on the working and operational preparedness, deployment, Administration & Logistics and future plans of SSB in the meeting.
Discussing the recent attack by militants on SSB troops in Jakura Srinagar, Kashmir, the Union Home Minister appreciated the retaliatory efforts made by SSB jawans and directed to provide all necessary support in terms of providing vehicles, Assault weapons, clothing etc, on priority to the troops of SSB deployed in J&K. It is pertinent to say that six Battalions of SSB are deployed in J&K since 2013 and seven Bns are also involved in anti LWE operations in Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.
Shri Rajnath Singh said, a contingent of SSB will soon be deployed in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations. Director General, SSB informed that the SSB has already constituted 140 personnel Police Unit for the purpose. She also informed that SSB is the first CAPF to induct women Combatised Mahila personnel. The force is ready to depute one Female formed unit for overseas deployment under the UN Peacekeeping Operations.
Shri Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister appreciated the works and activities of SSB in the LWE-affected areas and also in the State of Jammu & Kashmir. He applauded the achievements of SSB in preventing Naxal activities and the alertness with which SSB is performing its duties in J&K.
Union Home Minster also discussed the security arrangements of Indo-Nepal Border and directed that intensive vigil should be maintained on Indo-Nepal border as terrorists may take advantage of the porous border.
