Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said that the Government has not conducted any comparative study pertaining to India vis-?-vis other East Asian countries. However, as per 11th Five Year Plan, 2% of existing workforce had formal skill training in India as against 96% in Korea, 75% in Germany, 80% in Japan, and 68% in the United Kingdom. Further, in pursuance of 11th Five Year Plan objectives, Coordinated Action on Skill Development with three-tier institutional structure consisting of (i) PMs National Council, (ii) National Skill Development Coordination Board (NSDCB), (iii) National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) was set up. Besides, NSDC launched Hunar Hai to Kadar Hai campaign to generate awareness about skills and motivate Indian youth to acquire and upgrade skills.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Rudy said, the Government has in the current fiscal set up new Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship to coordinate all aspects of Skill Development through various interventions to bridge the demand-supply gap in skilled workforce. To encourage apprenticeship and on the job training, the Government has launched Apprenticeship Protsahan Yojna. Further, the recent amendment to the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 have made the legal framework friendly to both industry and employable youth.
