A ten-member South African conservation team has left for India to learn new skills and training in the field of tourism and conservation.

The seven men and three women of the team are staffers of the Parks and Tourism Board of North West Province and they would undergo training across India for up to six months.

Provincial Economic Development and Tourism Minister Motlalepule Rosho said the training programme arranged in conjunction with the Indian High Commission in South Africa was a spin-off from the relationship developed between the two countries as part of the BRICS bloc.

"We would like to thank the Indian government and also our own national tourism department for giving our province a part in this training programme," Rosho said.

Calling the exercise an opportunity of a lifetime, Rosho advised the students to learn from India the best practices, especially in the areas of conservation and tourism, and come back to implement these and share them with their colleagues.

Joseph Akwa, the Rector at the North West Province Parks and Tourism Board's hotel school, said the students would study at different universities, technical colleges, and specialist institutions in India.
