Three people have been killed and nine wounded when a gunman opened fire at a family planning centre in Colorado, officials said.
The gunman is in custody after surrendering to the police, they added.
"The perpetrator is in custody. The situation has been resolved," Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said.
"There's no continuing peril to the citizens of Colorado Springs but there's a huge crime scene that has to be processed," he added.
Paying tribute to the victims, he said, "I want to convey to the loved ones of the victims, this is a terrible, terrible tragedy that occurred here in Colorado Springs today. Obviously, we lost two civilian victims, we mourn the loss of a very brave police officer."
Earlier, ambulances and police vehicles were lined up near an intersection at the centre and police told people via Twitter to stay away from the "active shooter scene" because it was not secure.
