At least 37 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed within last 24 hours in fresh military operations in the Afghan province of Nangarhar, an official said on Tuesday.
Another 44 IS militants were injured during the operations launched by the Afghan army, police and allied militiamen in Kot district, Xinhua news agency cited a statement as saying.
Sporadic clashes continue between security forces and IS militants in the district since early Friday after a security checkpoint was attacked and several houses set ablaze.
More than 150 IS militants, eight civilians and at least two security force members were killed since the start of the clashes in the district.
Nangarhar province, with Jalalabad city as its capital, 120 km east of Kabul, has been the scene of clashes since the emergence of IS in early 2015.
