Chris Hipkins is set to succeed Jacinda Ardern as New Zealand’s prime minister after the ruling Labour Party said he is the only nominee to be its next leader.
 
The Labour caucus must still endorse Hipkins at a meeting tomorrow, the party said in a statement Saturday in Wellington. He will speak to media at 1pm local time today, the prime minister’s office said.

Labour is moving swiftly to replace Ardern after her shock resignation two days ago, seeking to unite the party behind a new leader ahead of a tough election in October. Hipkins must resurrect support for Labour,
