The Trump campaign has claimed to have raised $18 million after the first presidential debate, attributing the "massive" fundraising to "huge debate win" of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

This signals "momentum of historic proportions", the campaign said in a statement and claimed that the yesterday's debate, contrary to the perception in the mainstream media, was won by Trump.

"As a result of Donald Trump's huge debate win last night, we had a massive fundraising day bringing in more than $18 million. This is a movement to Make America Great Again," said Steven Mnuchin, finance chairman, Donald J Trump for President.

"We are grateful for the support of millions of Americans across the country. With this kind of energy and generous support behind us, we are going to have President Donald J Trump in the White House," he said.

Republican National Committee (RNC) finance chairman Lew Eisenberg called the 'National Call Day' a "tremendous success."

"Many donors came on board as Donald J Trump rolls on to victory," he said.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters on his campaign trail, Trump said he did very well in the debate.

"I think we did very well. We won every poll. Virtually every poll. Except for CNN. No one watches CNN," he said.

"It was an interesting evening certainly and big league. Definitely big league," Trump claimed.
