Google Doodle on Thursday celebrated British writer and women's rights activist Annie Besant's 168th birth anniversary by portraying an older Besant on a chair.
The Doodle in light shade of green-blue showed Besant holding an edition of New India newspaper, which she edited, targeting the colonial rule in India.
A prominent British socialist, Besant who was also a theosophist and orator, supported Irish and Indian self-rule. She was deeply involved in the Indian independence movement and became president of the Indian National Congress in 1917.
