Google searches reveal shift in China's economy

Business Standard
To get a flavour of the changing sentiment on China's economy, look no further than web searches made on Google. In 2014, while there were negative searches too, reflecting a slowdown already underway, most China-related search queries were upbeat

2014
  • China largest economy
  • China overtakes US economy
  • China passes US economy
  • China number 1 economy
  • China first economic power
That changed over 2015. After a $5 trillion stock market rout and scant sign of any economic turnaround, web surfers went for comparatively negative search terms.

2015
  • China economy collapse
  • China economy crash
  • China economy crisis
  • Why China economy is slowing
  • China stock market news
The sampling of searches isn't meant to be scientific and through the years the search terms can vary. But overall, it captures how the global mood has fluctuated on the world's second-largest economy.
