 "Google to enrich Google Maps")
Technology major Google on Tuesday said the process of enriching its popular Google Maps service was a continuous one to offering newer value added propositions to users.
Google Maps product manager Sanket Gupta said here on Tuesday that the application had nearly a billion users world wide and the company would continue to add fresh features and services for the benefit of both individual and institutional users.

Recently, Uttar Pradesh Police had announced to employ probably India's first web-based crime mapping system to control and preempt crime incidents by mapping and analysing crime patterns. Such systems are already employed by different police organisations in the US to check crime.
Under the proposed system, the state police stations would be mandated to upload crime related data for the past few years to a digital database. By using Google Maps, the UP Police would deduce crime patterns with a view to ascertaining crime prone areas for taking preventive steps.
To a Business Standard query, Gupta said: "Google Maps was an open platform and individuals and also organisations could leverage its services to their benefits".
Meanwhile, Google showcased the latest features in Google Maps during a session and highlighted ways to derive maximum benefit from applications such as Offline Maps, Search along route, Real-time traffic, Hindi Maps, Local Guides etc.

Google Maps has mapped 200 countries, while in India it has mapped 5,000 cities. India is amongst the top five countries using Offline Maps.
