England’s World Cup team have some extra pressure to worry about. The strength of the UK economy may lay in their hands.

Retailers expect the soccer tournament to bring the biggest boost to their sales over the next year, particularly through electronics and alcohol, according to a Bank of England survey. Consumers have come under strain since the UK’s vote to leave the European Union, and a successful run by the English team could provide a pick-me-up for stores and pubs.
