Shuttlers Srikanth, Sandhu in quarter-finals

Kidambi Srikanth became the second male shuttler in India's Olympic history to reach the men's singles quarter-finals when he overcame higher ranked Danish rival Jan O Jorgensen 21-19, 21-19. P V Sindhu advanced to the quarter-finals of the women's singles competition after defeating Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying 21-13, 21-15.

Babar finishes 10th in steeplechase

Lalita Babar finished 10th in 3,000-m steeplechase clocked 9 min, 22.74 seconds. Her effort was still the best performance by an Indian in a track event after after P T Usha's fourth-place finish in 400m hurdles in 1984.
