The supporters of the Islamic State or Daesh in Afghanistan are regretful now, President Ashraf Ghani has said.

This is the work of historians to point out "who and when supported them and when they regretted", Khaaama press quoted Ghani as saying in BBC interview.

IS, also called Daesh, was considered a serious threat from the beginning, he said.

Criticising Pakistan's stance against terrorism, Ghani said Pakistan needs to adopt equal policy against all terrorist groups.

"Pakistan must adopt equal policy against terror and those committing terror. Islamabad follows strict policy against terrorists who pose threat to Pakistan but adopts different stance against those working to destroy Afghanistan," he said.

Ghani's comments come as IS group is expanding in Afghanistan, which also poses threat to neighbouring countries.

Afghan leaders have repeatedly warned regional countries that those lighting the fire in Afghanistan need to know that they would eventually burn in the same fire.
