Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Justin Trudeau for his electoral victory that will make him the Prime Minister of Canada and said India attaches high priority to close ties with that country.

"Congratulations @JustinTrudeau for victory in Canadian parliamentary elections! We attach high priority to close ties with Canada," Modi tweeted.

"We share a strong bond of democracy & inclusiveness enriched by a vibrant Indian diaspora," he added.

Modi recalled his meeting with Trudeau during his visit to Canada in April and posted pictures of them together on his Twitter handle.

"I have fond memories of my visit to Canada in April 2015 and my meeting with you," Modi wrote, adding, "It was also great meeting your daughter, whom you had woken up early that day. Best wishes. :) @JustinTrudeau."

Trudeau's Liberal Party scored a stunning victory in Canada's Parliamentary elections yesterday, ending 10 years of leadership by Stephen Harper.

Harper was one of the longest-serving Western leaders.
