Osama bin Laden's son-in-law, who was also the former spokesperson for al-Qaida, will reportedly stand trial on Monday on US soil for conspiring to kill Americans, following September 11 terror attacks.

Suleiman Abu Ghaith is the highest-ranking al-Qaida figure to be tried in a US court.

According to the Guardian, Ghaith will pass through a metal detector before entering a Manhattan courtroom where prosecutors will try to prove to an anonymous jury that the one-time terror-network spokesman tried to rally others to kill Americans.

During their opening statement, prosecutors plan on showing the jury a picture of Abu Ghaith seated with Bin Laden and other al-Qaida leaders on the day after 11 September 2001.

Prosecutors will also show jurors post-September 11 videos in which the spokesman is seen promising more devastating attacks on the United States.
