Sri Lanka should implement 13th amendment in letter and spirit, says Venkaiah Naidu

He said that India must work with the neighbouring country

BS Reporter Chennai
Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu today considered the new government in Sri Lanka should implement in letter and spirit the 13th amendment which allows devolving certain authority to the country’s provinces.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating an international exhibition here, he said, “The Sri Lankan government should implement the 13th amendment in letter and spirit.”

Ensuring India will work with the island country, he said the neighbouring country should meet the aspirations of Tamil population living there.

Under the 13th Amendment, which followed the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord of 1987, Sri Lanka has to devolve certain authority to the provinces.  Naidu, however, refused to comment on the election outcome in Sri Lanka, saying it was an internal matter of Sri Lanka.
