Nearly 30 prisoners from India have been transferred back from Sri Lanka under a bilateral agreement signed in 2010, the Indian High Commission here said today.
Under the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners inked in June 2010, 31 sentenced Indian prisoners were found eligible for transfer to from Sri Lanka to facilitate their social rehabilitation, it said in a statement.
The cases of these prisoners were duly processed by the government of Sri Lanka and forwarded to the government of India for completion of required formalities on the Indian side.

This brings the total number of prisoners transferred under the agreement from Sri Lanka to to 29.
