The international watchdog OPCW has said that Syria has handed over the last of its declared chemical weapons to be shipped out of the country for destruction.
According to the BBC, the head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Ahmet Uzumcu, said that the ship has just left the port.
Uzumcu said that the final 8% of the 1,300-tonne stockpile was loaded on to ships in the Syrian port of Latakia on Monday.
The weapons are being shipped to a specially modified US naval vessel, the MV Cape Ray.
While the mission to destroy Syria's chemical weapons stockpile was to be accomplished by 30 June, fighting and the threat of attack by rebel groups contributed in delaying the removal of the weapons.
Meanwhile, Uzumcu said that an investigation into alleged use of chlorine in Syria's civil war is still ongoing, the report added.
