Trump must revive Central America with 'Marshall Plan' to curb migrant flow

US policies helped create the refugee crisis in Central America. Better ones can help resolve it

Central America has lately been prominent in the news, with controversy over how to respond to migrant caravans arriving through Mexico at the US border — up to 10,000 refugees may seek asylum in the United States, much to the chagrin of President Trump.

Even US border agents cruelly firing tear gas at women and children hasn’t deterred a newer caravan from forming in Honduras.

The president has used the situation to amplify his calls for a border wall, even though the number of unauthorized immigrants has been steadily falling and comes mainly from overstayed visas rather than illegal crossings.
