Undeniable role played by Iran in Syria talks: UN official

He hoped that Iranian officials would voice their willingness to attend the upcoming conference on Syria

UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson has said that Iran has played an undeniable and pivotal role in the Syrian peace negotiations.

Eliasson said in an interview with IRNA new agency that both the UN and global community needed a constructive approach to settle the Syrian crisis, it was reported Saturday.

"We are well aware of Iran's vital and sensitive role in settlement of crisis in Syria and across the globe," he said.

Eliasson said that the UN hoped that Iran's participation in the next round of negotiations on Syria would be very essential.

He hoped that Iranian officials would voice their willingness to attend the upcoming conference on Syria.
