US condoles Pakistan earthquake victims, offers assistance

They added that they were closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan

The United States today condoled the loss of lives in the earthquake that struck Pakistan saying it stands ready to assist the affected people.

"Our condolences go out to the families who lost loved ones during the earthquake in western Pakistan today," State Department spokesperson Mark Thornburg said.

"Our thoughts are with the injured and those who have lost so much in this tragedy," he said adding that the US is closely monitoring the situation.

"The United States stands ready to assist the people of Pakistan," Thornburg said.

At least 80 people have been killed in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake, which struck Balochistan province this morning.
