World leaders mourn the death of Fidel Castro

The former Cuban president was 90 years of age

Former President Fidel Castro, who led a rebel army to improbable victory in Cuba, embraced Soviet-style communism and defied the power of 10 US presidents during his half century rule, died at the age of 90. With a shaking voice, his younger brother, Raul Castro, announced on state television that his brother died at 10:29 pm on Friday night

As the news was announced leaders across the globe took to twitter and offered condolences for the slain leader. 

1) Pranab Mukerjee, President of India: Heartfelt condolences on sad demise of Cuba's revolutionary leader, former President & friend of India, Fidel Castro 
 
2) Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India: I extend my deepest condolences to the Government & people of Cuba on the sad demise of Fidel Castro. May his soul rest in peace. Fidel Castro was one of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century. India mourns the loss of a great friend.

3) Sonia Gandhi, Congress President: Condoled the passing away of Fidel Castro. His contribution to the Non Aligned Movement and his unflinching support for India's cause on various fora will always remain deeply etched in the minds and hearts of the Indian people, she added. 

4) Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of CPI-M: End of an era. But revolutionaries like Fidel Castro live forever.

5) Imran Khan, Pakisatni politician former cricketer: Today the world lost an iconic revolutionary leader Fidel Castro who liberated his nation from all vestiges of imperialism. Castro reasserted the Cuban nation's dignity & self worth that withstood US aggression & became a global ldr for anti colonial struggles. 

6) DMK Supremo M Karunanidhi also paid rich tributes to the Cuban revolutionary. "A lion cub who grew to become a respected revolutionary leader in a small country, Fidel Castro is one of the greatest leaders I can never forget," he said.

7) Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico: I regret the death of Fidel Castro Ruz, leader of the revolution Cuban and reference emblematic of the century XX. Fidel Castro was a friend of Mexico, promoter of a bilateral relationship based on respect, dialogue and solidarity.
