 Apna Bazar Co-op (an 80-stores-strong chain comprising food and groceries outlets, departmental malls and medical shops) started out in 1948 as a fair-price shop for the mill workers of central Mumbai.

 In the 1970s, another chain Union Co-op started out in Dubai targeting the affluent local population.

 Today, the 55-year-old Apna Bazar lords over Mumbai
