Urging educational institutions to move beyond mere teaching of technology, Vic Hayes, popularly known as the 'Father of WiFi', has advocated teaching cross intersection of technology, management and policy. In the city to educate history and utility of wireless internet connectivity, Hayes highlighted on innovative usage of wireless internet technology during a lecture at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA).

"Engineers do go on to pursue management from B-schools but that is general management. What educational institutions should do is teach cross intersection of technology, management and policy. This way, students in the future will know not only about the technology but also on how to manage that technology in innovative ways for social and economic benefits," said Hayes.

Talking further about steps required to promote usage of WiFi, Hayes said, "Countries like India will have to make regulations easy and provide more spectrum for WiFi. There is a lot of utility attached to it, especially for the benefit of entrepreneurs. For instance, in South Korea, a WiFi-enable LG refrigerator orders beer online when it runs out of stock." Hayes also emphasised on compliance with standards and security of WiFi when he said, "WiFi users need to secure their devices and also remain compliant to standards.”
