Terming placements as having become the raison d’être for management institutes, Vice President of India, M Hamid Ansari on Tuesday urged B-schools to emphasise on providing education than becoming "de facto placement organisations.
Speaking at the 30th annual convocation of the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), Ansari said, "I wish to touch on the aspect of placements which have almost become the raison d’être for management institutes. I think it is critical to emphasize that the principle objective of an educational institution is to provide education and not to become a de facto placement organisation". The country's premier rural management school conferred degree certificates to 102 participants of Post Graduate Programme in Rural Management (PGDRM) and one student of Fellow Programme in Rural Management in Ansari's presence.
